Overview

This project introduced me to tools and technologies in the realm of new media and computational development, the influence of each subject New media, cyberculture, and airport stakeholders. 

It served as a context for airport operations and management, involving passengers and employees, thereby forming a paradigm of cyberculture where each aspect facilitates digital networks and social shaping technologies. 
Some of the methods I followed were predominantly site visits and case studies, interviewing employees and passengers on their perspectives of travel and management. I also watched a documentary on one of the busiest and oldest airports, London's Heathrow which gave a lot of insights into operations and travel in and out of the airport. The site visits were observation visits on types of machines available, stakeholders' activity, and even booked a flight to Kochi to understand the insides of the airport.&#38;nbsp;

Narrowing Outcomes

My aim was to rekindle a sense of wonder through technology, foster engagement with tools, and manage evolving expectations. Viewing the airport as the interface between passengers and airlines, I recognized that airline customers inherently become the airport's customers. I explored the innovative applications of new media in visual communication, focusing on visual expression through information technology (IT), flexible layouts, diverse transmission modes, and interactive integration.

The Micro-Outputs of this project include AI widgets, Flight Tracker installation, Multimedia kiosks, and Hologram signage. Together, these elements embody cyberculture principles by leveraging the internet and data as technology, introducing creative and collaborative tools, shaping new social contexts, and serving as mediums of communication.

Outcome 2 : Crowd Circles


A projected installation with physical poles and circular floor projections enhances crowd optimization in airports, reducing disorientation and anxiety during delays or disruptions. The poles serve as landmarks for queue management, while projected circles act as tangible boundaries, dynamically adjusted using a MIDI keyboard to guide passenger movement.


Color-coded projections (red, yellow, green) indicate crowd density, ensuring passengers can reorient themselves and avoid congestion.&#38;nbsp; By improving flow, monitoring occupancy, and creating organized spaces, this system fosters safety, efficiency, and comfort, providing a structured social context within tangible bounds.

Widgets enhance the travel experience by providing quick, convenient access to essential information and services. With user-friendly interfaces, passengers can easily receive real-time flight updates, gate changes, baggage details, and personalized notifications on their devices, ensuring seamless and informed decision-making.


Interactive wayfinding widgets also offer guidance on airport amenities, dining, shopping, and time management, streamlining navigation for a hassle-free journey to your destination.

Key Learnings and Reflections


Exploration and Ambition: Th project pushed me to explore new communication mediums and manage time effectively within a tight timeline. While ambitious, narrowing focus was challenging due to diverse opportunities and technologies.
Context and Direction: Confidently selecting new media and airports allowed experimentation with systems and cyberculture, though integrating outputs with context required substantial ideation and iteration.
Challenges and Growth: Conducting surveys and interviews onsite was outside my comfort zone but essential. Multiple prototypes were necessary to achieve project goals despite calls to simplify.
Technology and Testing: Exploring tools helped shape outputs, and testing validated learnability and proof of concept, creating a wholesome, impactful project.


Future Goal: 

I aim to create more functional prototypes and secure permissions to implement installations at airports. This project deepened my understanding of technology’s potential and its role in creating meaningful experiences, a perspective I intend to carry forward in future projects.

Digital Product Experience Design for Traffic Signal Controller for Copods

Objective
 

Design a desktop interface for a traffic control application that allows a traffic controller (sitting in a control room) to manage a four-way road junction.&#38;nbsp;Traffic flow changes depending on time of day (e.g., morning vs evening peak).&#38;nbsp;At any moment, traffic from opposite directions can move; others must stop unless free-left is allowed.&#38;nbsp;The traffic controller needs to adapt signal logic in real time based on traffic density and unexpected events

The interface must help the controller:Set the sequence in which traffic signals turn green.


Control the duration each signal stays green.


Allow or restrict free-left turns on specific roads.

Objective:
Create a design solution for managing the supply chain during a crisis scenario, based on the case of a machine breakdown in one of the manufacturing sites of a leading CPG company. The machine breakdown affected the production of a high-demand product and created a service risk for the company. The design solution aims to address the following objectives:&#38;nbsp;
• Coordinate efforts among the supply chain partners to mitigate the impact of the disruption.

• Allow the supply chain teams to make informed decisions based on real-time data and

analytics.

• Allow the supply chain teams to minimize the disruption and restore normal operations as

Transport Guide - BMTC and Metro Objective&#38;nbsp;Navigating transportation challenges in Bangalore presents a significant hurdle for many residents, prompting them to rely on public transportation options like buses, taxis, or auto-rickshaws. To address this, I aim to develop a comprehensive Android application catering to the needs of Bengaluru commuters, whether they rely on BMTC buses or the newly established metro railway system. 
This standalone app will offer users access to official routes, maps, trip planning tools, and ticket transactions, streamlining their commuting experience regardless of their chosen mode of transport. By encompassing both bus and metro functionalities, our goal is to provide a seamless and convenient solution for commuters to navigate the bustling cosmopolitan city.

Featured in the Museum of Contemporary Digital Arts (MoCDA) Summer Show 2022


The dataset was downloaded from a source online and loaded into the processing code. Mapped the cases and deaths code data to the frequency and amplitude of Sin Oscillator and Tri Oscillator respectively. Color-coded each state in rainbow order. The date and State name were in bold white color as the date passes by for each state.

A Monochromatic touch to photography, data collection, and art installation on various metaphorical views and applications represents the dichotomy present in our surroundings. Through careful curation and exploration, I aim to highlight the stark contrasts and complexities inherent in our environment. By employing these tones, I seek to evoke a sense of introspection and contemplation, encouraging viewers to delve deeper into the layers of meaning embedded within each image, dataset, and installation. MACHINES' MIND


This is observing the engager's information from a machine’s perspective which has no hard feelings. The illustration represents an overview of a machine’s mind which symbolically is a factory of coded instructions with binary conclusions, how the machine categorizes, filters, judges people’s data, and connects the dots respectively. The criteria considered in the playground experiment are present here which are proximity, contamination, and so on. But this depicts how the people respond to those criteria by claiming their personal information, history, etc, and how the machine digitally ‘judges’ a human. 
Using black and white as a mediator, the gradience from white to black (back to foreground) is to represent the length of a machine's brain capacity to gain data. There are also stern and fluid strokes that after contemplation indicate what parts of a machine’s mind are voluntary and involuntary. The contrast in strokes, thin and thick, firm and fluid differ in importance and voluntary actions programmed by the brain. By blending acrylic and watercolors, the elements stand out contextually and visually.

SPACE ACTIVITY

Black and white thinking enables discreet categorization. The fallacy of this dichotomy is restricting two possible categories than an entire spectrum of possibilities. Each is the polar opposite of the other. This experiment is an analysis of a public space considering criteria that influence the positivity and negativity of that place. Positivity and negativity have ubiquitous considerations, such as the subject of interests, shape, emptiness, background, and multifunctional but this experiment looks at areas of influence to cause positive and negative energy or differentiation in a public space through surveillance analysis for a day.


The space here is a playground with various play parts and the criteria include – crowd intensity, occupancy, contamination, popularity, and traversal. The benchmark for these criteria is derived from Gestalt's principles which include Proximity, continuity, closure, similarity, and figure/ground. The black and white meaning shifts with each criterion by its visualizations through patterns and textures.

Memoryscape Walkthrough


An animated video with a video game influenced a trip down memory lane of the deceased grandmother. Five memorabilia located in each room (possible resemblance to her home) signifying insightful reflective memories of the grandmother, the good and the bad. The black and whiteness of each room represent the condition of the memory and sense of the past. Each room has one object in grayscale but colors up when approached near it, igniting the memory voiceover illustration, narrating scenarios that made the object special/ precious to the grandmother.The layout is inspired by the early 2000s video game top view format and the arrangement is sequentially carried out from one memory to another. The orange deuteragonist walking through each room could be you as a watcher or a universal grandchild. The last room is an emotional viewpoint seeing the grandmother's holographic projection, the last sight seen. Here the black and white is not just a mere visual aesthetic but allegorical to the past and collective memory.

	This project involved service design aimed at a specific group—elderly individuals—by mapping their perspectives and service ideas for an old age home. It also included creating a brand identity for a catering service run exclusively by seniors, highlighting their mission and purpose to promote the value and voice of the elderly. Done by a six- member Group Project

A study to understand the current system of old age homes in India and identify loopholes that can be filled by bringing in other stakeholder services to make the entire system more inclusive, and collaborative and retain/increase its affordability and accessibility.
